Question about hooking up inserts.
I was just curious on how could I hook my dbx compressor to my mixer so that i can compress my bass drum, and snare drum. My mixer has 2 inserts, and 2 sets of aux in and aux returns. My compressor has inserts, input and output. I just dont know what wire goes where. and how do i make the signal go to the compressor and back?? Thanks

You need an insert cable - Likely, 1/4" TRS to dual 1/4" TS. One tip goes to the TRS tip, the other tip goes to the TRS ring.
Plug the cable into the "insert" on the console (keep in mind that this would be at the track level if you're trying to compress certain tracks only). "Normally" on most U.S. and British consoles, TIP goes To InPut and a RING completes a circle. That's about the simplest way I can come up with to remember if you don't use them very often. |

In case that's over your head.... you need a cable that has one 1/4" male connector with two rings one one end (that's the TRS, or balanced end) and two 1/4" connectors with one ring (the TS connector) on the other side. It's a y-cable, like this:

You will need two compressors to do your snare and kick seperately unless your DBX has two mono channels.
