Angry doing things the stoooopid way

hello all,

i know this sounds a bit odd and backwards, but i'm trying to record some beats i've programmed on my pc in to my tascam 4 track. i've run lines from line out to line in, sub in, stereo in and all sorts but i just can't get enough volume!!! i've fiddled with the output volume of my pc too without success.

any suggestions from all you wizened folks to a simple, dumb, lo-fi pilot???

your pc only produces about 2 volts of signal power...if you think about it..anything that plays sound from your pc is powered. even those small $10 speakers are powered. your going to need something like a small power amp or whatnot to power the signal given by your computer so the tascam can record it at a volume to your taste.

you could take a small stereo mixer and connect the outputs of the soundcard to the inputs of the mixer and the outputs of the mixer to the inputs of the tascam.

Just to make sure, you checked *all* your Windows volume controls, right? The mixer, the player, the main out, all that jazz?

My backup system has an on-board system. I can get sheer squared-off signal if all my Windows controls are cranked.

Uh... he's talking about a line level signal here. A line level signal should be fine for input to the Tascam.

Make sure the indidual wavs on the PC are at a strong level and you can compress if needed before sending them out. Probably not a bad idea since you are going to cassette.

good tip, but i'm afraid the crackly distorted version gets the go-ahead...its more in keeping with the drunk-just-about-to-fall-over vibe of the song. i hope my luddite attitude doesn't horrify you guys

That's okay. We're not the ones who have to listen to it.
