How to transfer 3/4 tracks from cassette using stereo cable ??

Hi,

I know quite a bit about cool edit 2000 and cool edit pro as I do some basic editing and such on these .. Lately, I've been wanting to transfer 3 tracks, from my cassette portastudio, to my laptop via the stereo cable (to 3 seperate tracks into cool edit multitrack mode). Obviously, I can't do all 3 at once. I'll need to transfer the remaining 3rd track later, and seperately, and SYNC it with the other 2. HOW do I do this ? I mean, how do I sync it in the most effective, and relatively easy way. Thanks!

The ONLY way is to have a smpte stripe on one of the cassette tracks and have a sync box that can the s/w can use to sync along with.

The problem here is that you should record all of the tracks from your recorder at the same time because you cassette player wont have the same speed the second time you record (I have tried it...).

One solution:
Record two of the tracks into your computer while recording the third track into a minidisc (or another digital recorder). Second you input the minidisc into the computer and record from it.

Another solution:
If you have a drum track you might record that after you have recorded the other two track, but make sure that a little blit of the drums bleed through on one of the other tracks. And now you have to zoom in, split and align the drumtrack to the other tracks (the bleeding is to visually align the tracks).

Third solution:
Get hand on a soundcard capable og recording more than two tracks at the same time.

I decided to get a better sound-card for my desktop and leave the laptop alone for now. Can you please tell me which soundcards have 4 RCA "ins", have good quality but are budget oriented ? I'm not too familiar with the cost but I wouldn't want to spend more than about 100 bucks ..
