Negative latency !?

A created a file with only a peak in it in multitrack view. I played it back thru my earphones while holding it in front of my mic - this to check the latency.

The strange thing is that I got a negative latency, the recorded peak came in a few ms before the peak actually was played!

Any ideas why this happend?

System:
- Audition 1.0
- P4 1800 mHz
- Soundblaster live retail 5.1
