Too bad its Chinese made Studio RTA crap.

You could have gone with Ominrax and hopefully saved some jobs in the US furniture manufacturing industry. Instead you have only added to the problem which caused my previous employer (Bush Industries) to declare bankruptcy and me to be out of a job for 6 months now with unemployment quickly running out.

I hope the money you saved was worth it.

High end?

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/548080/

Lemme guess, you shop at Wal Mart don't you? Ever stop to think why their prices are so low?

This isn't about being pro or anti anything. Its about propagating a mentality/behaivour that end the end hurts everybody (the people of China included), except for the greedy politicians and CEO's who own these companies.

Isn't Ohio in serious trouble right now with an unemployment rate higher than the national average? You should take some time and understand what is going on not only in your back yard, but on the other side of the world.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the nice comments!

rpe,

If you're asking why two video monitors, I like having the track view and console view (SONAR Producer) open in full screens at the same time.

Its most unfortunate you lost your job, and I'm sorry to hear that.

Blaming chinese importers is a folly however.

In 2003, Bush Industries did $340 mil, with a respectable margin. Its 2004. What happened?

Here is an analogy...

While at the movies, your house catches on fire. When you come home, you'll find a pile of ashes - its all gone.

However, if beforehand you installed a fire sprinkler system, and a fire alarm system that calls the fire department, only the room the fire started in will be damaged, and the rest of the house will remain livable.

Business works the same way. Business owners and leaders have to not only run current operations, but they have to be visionary and look into the future, and plan accordingly. Paul Bush didn't do that, and neither did his advisors. While at the movies, his house caught on fire, and burnt to the ground, to draw on the above analogy.

The chinese importers certainly were fiercely competing, no question about it. However, Paul Bush didn't react for ages. Probably, about two years to late, and the end result sadly, is predictable.

Anyway, I am sorry you lost your job... that does suck, and I feel for you.

I LOVE THE DESK, IT LOOKS SO NEAT! I HATE YOU! LOL jk

I plan on getting a new desk soon. I am pretty strapped for cash right now. So I will probably get a decent desk and some speaker stands.

Bush's manufacturing capacity was for $500 mil. They sold their St. Paul facility and are in the process of getting rid of their state-of-the-art Erie, PA facility. They have been loosing money for the last 4 quarters and not meeting their quarterly sales goals. I'm not sure where you're getting your info. I sure hadn't seen any profit sharing bonuses since the first 2 quarters in 2002...

I agree wholeheatedly with you that some of what happened was Paul Bush's fault (being a designer involved in product development and seeing new market opportunities which nobody in upper managment would take seriously was extremely frustrating) BUT that was only part of the problem. There was huge pressure from larger retailers like BestBuy, OfficeMax and the like breathing down our necks because companies like Studio RTA show them product from China which is ridiculously cheap and wanting Bush to follow suit.

Sure Bush could have also sourced product in China, but that wouldn't have changed anything as far as putting tons of people out of work and ruining the local economy in Jamestown and the NY Southern Tier area as a whole.

I know several employees long term employees with over 15 years of service to the company who had been depending on Bush stock for retirement money and to pay for their kid's college tuition.

How would you have felt loosing over $200,000 overnight? I'm just trying to make people aware of how their purchasing decisions affect other people.

To be fair (to you), I got it off a news clip off finance.yahoo.com, and simply repeated the figures they had posted, then commented on them, based on my experience "in real life".

Of course it wasn't the only reason. China flooding the market with cheaper products was also part of the reason, I wasn't trying to argue that. I was really just trying to say it wasn't all off it. I didn't work there, I'm an outsider, but based on what some of the analysts have commented on I had the impression there was a lot more to the company going under than just imported competition.

I agree. Often compromises can be made however to reduce costs. Have the screws and brackets made overseas, do the laminate work here. It doesn't have to be an all or nothing type of situation, ever.

I'm going to put my foot in my mouth if I comment. Sadly, those days are long gone. Looooooooooooooooong gone, and its sad.

I have.

And yes, you are correct, what everyone buys does effect the market place significantly.

However, I believe in value for money. I often purchase an American made, or American assembled product if the price and quality is in the same ballpark. If its radically different, then I put effort into determining the value I'll gain out of the product, versus what I spent.

I do a lot of automotive wrenching as a hobby, and most of my tools are either MAC or Snap-on. Made in the usa, lifetime warranty, not that any of them break.

On the occasions where I need a weird sized socket or other tool I'll never use again, I simply buy the cheapest thing I can get. If I only need it once, why spend four times the price just to have it look pretty on the shelf? I have enough tools like that already. Something I'll use anywhere from "somewhat often" to "constantly", I'll call my mac/snap on guy, the van visits, and I throw my wallet at 'em.

But thats just me, and certainly not necessary the right way for all people. I have a couple of friends that needed wrench sets for car repairs, and they couldn't afford $20 a pop for a wrench, so they purchased one of those "mucho tools in a box made in china" type sets for $70.

I can appreciate both sides of the coin actually...

I believe the Black Crows said it best...

...Jealous, I'm jealous again.

I've got those same lamps. Are yours touch dimmable too? I've been meaning to take the dimmer out, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I've also got some cobalt blue ones just like them. And I've got a jones for old phones, too. I've even got that same box of kleenex, but my wife picked that out. And are those the Mackies I've been wanting? What was your address again? I think you should go out for dinner and a really loooong movie tomorrow night. Say, about eight o'clock?

And is that an Avalon on the right, and a Behry on the left? Talk about running the gamut!

Since all of my money goes to gear, I'll be having some delicious bologna and cheese sandwiches at home tonight. And tomorrow night...and the next night...etc. I may even shoot for the moon and fry my bologna!!!

I got the phone on Ebay for $13...

I haven't taken pictures yet but as of right now I also have 7 lava lamps in there with 10 more on the way (thanks Ebay!) My lamps (in the picture) are touch dimmable and cobalt blue but just don't look like it in the picture. Thanks Home Depot.

Yes, HR624's. They recently replaced my Alesis M1 Actives.

M5 on the right, Behr***** 1953 on the left. And you can just see the Mackie Control Universal peeking out on the desktop. Haven't mounted the UA M610 yet.

I replaced the AX7's in the Behr***** with AU7's. Not as much output but a much better sound quality. It was a lark.

I turn the router off when I'm tracking/mixing. I only have the wireless LAN so I can surf on my bedroom computer (no modem in the bedroom). The studio computer does not ever get on the 'net!

Cheers,

Earl
