I'm pretty sure there is no such thing - something may well have confused you. However, the Wharfedale Diamond 8.2's are mid market, hi-fi stereo speakers. They have a much flatter response than most hi-fi speakers and are very clear.

A few months ago Massive Master mentioned that in the past he had used them as monitors with better results than many low end "studio monitors" (MM apologies if my paraphrasing is inaccurate - it's from memory) when used with a good reference amp.

I had been driven to misery by my Alesis Mk2 Actives, so I dumped them and tried his idea. Huge improvement, I can hear things I never heard before, but with the caveat that I'm a beginner.

Hope that helps.

They're real alrighty... Wharfedale contacted me about them several months ago about doing some testing. I told them I was excited to hear about them, but didn't have the time available. Still gotta try 'em.

Hope they don't let me down like most actives vs. passives have... Even though, they at least had the passives first... But then... Oh, screw it.

I'm sure they sound absolutely amazing. I might have to get another passive set just because they're shielded now.

The street price is 299.99 a pair, but I'm a wharfedale dealer so I can get a pair for a lot less. I've just never heard them

There is no MAP price set, but the list price is $399.99 a pair and dealer cost is down around $200.00 for the pair.

I'd say to put me down for several, but I'm quite happy with my current monitoring. However, they're not the easiest things to find, and I have SEVERAL associates that are desperate to get their grimey hands on mine.

Where do I send them?

If you know anyone who wants some have them email me. Like I said I'm a wharfedale dealer now. I'll sell them for $275.00 a pair.

Massive, just out of interest, how do the Diamond passives in your view compare with more "conventional" mixing monitors in the up to $500 price range, if that's not an impossible question? I know they're hugely better than the Alesis, but how about the Tannoys, Behri Truths, and so on?

They're almost too "sweet" sounding for tracking and mixing - I run every master I audition through them, though.

I've mixed with them before - They sound very "real" without sounding too "flat" like a standard studio monitor.

Let's put it this way - There aren't too many studio monitors that I actually enjoy listening to music through - The D8's I enjoy listening to just about anything through.

Just thinking about having a set in the near-field (now that they're shielded) is giving me goosebumps... Although, I can have anything in my near-field anymore in here since I put in the 802's

Boy, I could get used to these little icon thingies...

diamonds studio & hifi version !

Itīs interesting that wharfedale now sells an diamond version as studio monitor.

After i did recognized this monitors on my local dealer ( germany ) i did look in www about those but only find information about the hifi version. Those had a lot of good reviews on online stores and hifi magazines like whatīs hifi etc.

Also it was interesting to read in this forum about that John ( massivemastering ) recommended those hifi version for musician who was looking for an budget studio monitor.

Before i recognized the active wharfedales i wanted to buy the alesis m1 mk2 or the fostex pm1. Yesterday i did hear the active 8.2 diamonds with the active 8.1 diamonds, the genelec 1030 A and the yamaha msp 5. My Dealer doesīnt have more monitors there.

I am not an professional to decide which monitor is better but i did hear that the 8.2 bass extension is not neutral ( louder ) and very HARD. Genelec bass is softer. I think the kevlar woofer have to burn in before testing. But i think the midīs and high are neutral and clear.

here is an review from barry rudolph ( mixonline ) about the 8.1 ( hifi ).

and here is an article on soundonsound with the 8.2 ( hifi ) - MONITORS versus HI-FI SPEAKERS.

Did someone else hear the hifi and the studio version ?

Is there SMOOTH SOUND ok for mixing ?

thank you garry for part 2 of the article.

i didīnt find and read it before.

It was very difficult to understand part 2 with my school english, but i think the STUDIO & HIFI version of the diamonds now are not the same and i want to know more about their differences

Apart from a couple of subs, none of those links make any mention of the Wharfdales being active?
Do they do an active version?
