Bedroom Studio

I'm attemping to build a small studio in my bedroom. I live in a brand-new 14x75' mobile home. My bedroom I would say is about 12x12 and about 8-9' high. I have a very nice brand new laptop and I'm planning on using that to do my recording with. But I'm wondering about how I should setup the room. For instance; What should I put on the walls for acoustic foam or any of that stuff. I'm very, very new to this whole deal so I don't have a clue. I have a decent budget of at least 1500-2000 but I don't think I need to go overboard for just a small time bedroom studio for my own pleasure....Just would like to know you guys opinions. The music and style I play is a lot like Dave Matthews acoustic type of stuff. So Just need to know what to get for mics and what else. I need to know everything right down to the cables hehe....Thanks

One thing I would recommend is to search on "pics" in this forum and take a look at all the studio pictures that are posted here. You can get lots of good ideas just by looking at the photos. Then do some more searchs on "acoustic treatment", "gobos", "defussers", etc., etc., etc. There is so much great info within this community of posters that it will answer every question you have.

one of the first things you may hear mentioned is that studio's should not be square. if those dimensions you stated are indeed the rooms dimensions, you are gonna have to do a bit more work.

i'm not trying to be a dick, but i suggest you spend a bit more time poking around this board, searching through old posts and so on. (i only say this because i am not some hardcore acoustics pro like some of the guys on here, and i am unable to lay everything out here in this post for you. i am merely trying to point you in the direction you need to look.) there is a wealth of knowledge here. go brew some coffee and stay glued to the computer for the next few days.

My setup is a bedroom studio similar to what you you are trying to do. You tell us what you want to achieve as far as the room but what are you recording. I do mainly rap and hip hop. I dont have any major acoustical treatment done. When I record vocals its all done either through headphones( for singers and rappers that cant seem to come through when locked in an adjacent room) or I mic vocals from the hall. If i do it all in room I comp vocals and gate with on alesis 3630. This usually gets me a nice clean track as long as I do some listening on my monitors as I go!

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll definitely be trying all of your ideas. And yes like you have all said I need to do a lot more research on here...
