I am looking at buying some bulk cable. My question is can Mic cable be used for other applications (1/4" TRS patch cable and 1/4" speaker wire) or is the wiring so different taht other cable needs to be used?

You can use mic cable for TRS cables, but not speaker. There are three main types of cable you will run into.

A: Two conductor with shield: used for balanced connections (mics, TRS)
B: Single conductor with shield: used for intruments and unbalanced line level signals.
C: Speaker cable: Um, you use it for speakers.

OK, I guess I failed to mention that my monitors are powered. Someone told me that I could just use 1/4" cable for those. Is that incorrect?

Powered monitors, no, you would not want to use speaker cable. You would use either balanced or unbalanced depending on what the speakers can use adn what the output of your soundcard is. What monitors do you have adn what soundcard?

As for speaker cable, you would onyl use speaker cable between a power amp and a passive speaker.

Ok, the soundcard is RME Multiface (only has 1/4" outs) and the monitors are Yorkville YSM1ps (have both 1/4" and XLR). Both of these have balanced connections.

Has anyone ever used Redco mic cable? I am thinking of getting some, here are the specs for the cable I am thinking of. I won't have any runs longer then 30 ft.
