One versatile mic or 2 contrasting mics
I will soon be buying my first LDC (FINALLY!). Of course I plan on going up to the local recording store and going through the lot, following Mr. Gersts testing techniques.
I don't think I can afford more than $200 or so total, thus limiting my options. But I was just wondering what most of you would do in this situation. Would you rather have 1 versatile mic (ala C1) or 2 different mics that compliment and contrast eachother (such as the B1 and V67). I'm leaning towards the latter. Your thoughts? I'm pretty much set on SDC's and dynamics. |

A Mic
Hey, Doink.
Picked up my first condenser, a Rode NT3 from GC for $100 on clearance. I took it over to a friend's studio and he liked it better than his $400 LD. I think the normal street price is around $180. Please give it a listen at http://homerecording.com/bbs/showthr...hreadid=118387 Please leave a comment there on the mix. Can you post a link to Mr Gerst's techniques? Thanks, apl |

Your link is dead.
I'm sure the NT3 will be one of the many I'll look at. If I can get it for $100, it will get more consideration. So if it were the regular $180, would you still rather have that than 2 $100 mics? |

http://homerecording.com/bbs/showth...threadid=118387 IMHO, it's better to have one way good mic than two mediocres, and I think it's pretty much essential to have a good condenser in a hobby studio, especially for vox.
