Monitor Question: So basic, you might laugh . . .

I'm about to take the step up from running my production through consumer-grade speakers to some actual pro monitors. My question is, if I buy powered monitors, what will I need to route a signal to them? I'll be working with a computer production setup with analog outs - can I plug 'em straigh into that, or will I need to route them through some sort of mixer?

Basically, what kind of inputs will your average powered monitors plug into?
