Eliminating 120 Hz resonance from ceiling ?
In the room I 'work' - I noticed that on my work place I have a huge 120 Hz resonance which makes my mixing very difficult (also listening is very tiring due to this).
Here is the case - I've got two minitors set on my desk on sitting on two pads (height adjustments). If I move back from monitors - resonance is gone. My best guess is that resonance is coming from floor to ceiling. Unfortunately floor is a stone type ![]() Might it be that the desk is resonating as well (columns of drawers on each side of desk under desktop). How can I reduce this resonance effect ? put anything on floor ? on ceiling ? I rent the apartment - so no permanent rebuild is possible. |

You could try hanging come cloth covered 703 clouds from the ceiling.
Make some 2'x4' frames out of 1 inch stock lumber. Set your cloth covered 703 in those. Hang them adjacent to the ceiling using picture wire and small eye hooks.

Grim,
> If I move back from monitors - resonance is gone. < This is more likely to be related to the length of your room, from front to back. What are the three dimensions of your room? I'll also mention that all rooms have problems at all low frequencies, not just frequencies related to the room dimensions. If you get Electronic Musician magazine, my article in the current (April) issue explains this in detail. Also see the Acoustics FAQ, second in the list on my Articles page: www.ethanwiner.com/articles.html --Ethan
