im looking for a reasonable priced gate (400-800). i saw this guy demostrating this gate but he didnt say what kind it was, he had a mic on this tom and until he hit the tom that the mic was on u couldt hear any of the other drums, it was great i would love to have that kind of isolation if i wanted or needed it. so do u guys know of a gate that does that?

And he probably had an electronic trigger on it to open the gate

Yeah you can use a sidechain trigger. you would adhere the trigger on the drum of the head and plug it into the sidechain insert of the gate. the gate now opens and closes in reaction to the trigger- and not the sound of the mic-

You can use a little piezo speaker wired to a plug as the trigger or I use an acoustic trasducer that I got for mt acoustic guitar that I never use- the speaker is cheaper, and just as good- I just happen to have the transducer around
