19'x25' enough for control and live rooms?
i will have a 19'8" x 25' space in the basement.
if i want to do the room in a room thing so that the sound is reduced throughout the rest of the house, and so that i don't hear people's feet stomping on the family room floor above my head. q1: how much separation do i need between the outer walls (and ceiling) and my studio room walls (and ceiling)? the existing ceiling is a little less than 9' high. q2: should i be able to build a control room and have enough space to create a live room big enough to hold a 4 piece band (incl. drummer). i'm figuring that i'll lose 3 feet of outer wall space, and one foot between the 2 rooms. so that the inner dimensions will be 16' x 22' with the control room being 16' x 10' and the live room being 16' x 10'. |

Hello crosstudio, I personally don't think it is. Here is why. Each rectangle is a 4'x10 panel. Each set of panels is equal to 10' x 16'. This is to scale. Do you think there is enough room?

hey fitZ..Is the drummer in your picture available in DXF format? Is it part of a collection of instruments that are drawn to scale? Thanks.

damn.
i never record in a group anyway, but i wanted to have the option. maybe i'll cut the length of the live space to 6 feet and use part of the width for storage and the other part for an amp closet. |

Having said that I tweaked my own design to fit for you. Could work. Ron

It's going to be tight. I think it would work though.
How 'bout you have a mixing/tracking room, and an iso booth? You could use the big room for doing drums and whatever else is too big for the booth. Do everything else in the booth. All I have is a 13'X15' room. It's going to be tight for doing drums next week. It's also going to suck have amps blaring in my ears. I might just run the amp upstairs or something. |

another major setback.
my basement sprung another leak. there is a stream at the edge of my property that is supposed to take the water from my and surrounding houses, but my developer didn't grade the property properly so the water isn't running off the way it should. now they've got to come back and re-grade the property. worse yet, my basement sprung a leak. we wanted to wait a year before starting studio construction so we could make sure that the basement wasn't leaking... well it did. i'm going to put my studio gear in an upstairs bedroom for now (13L x 11W x 8H). It has a walk in closet i can where i can put a vocal mic. |
