Song of Life

Here's a work in progress...

Song of Life

I'd like any feedback on the mix you have to offer...

It's a fairly easy going acoustic tune...

My ears are trashed from tracking this morning man....but this is what I hear....

super nice tone on the acoustic...
Drums sound just a little muffled...I would like to hear a sharper and louder snare....snare chain sounds good though....
cymbals are sweet...
Kick could use some warmth/verb
harmony vox is SUPER good...that baritone is an awesome touch!
the lead guit is tracked and played extremely well...very cool...what's the signal chain?
bass is a little low and undefined in the mix....played well though...

lead vox is good too man but the third vox track at 3:40 (oh yeah yeah...song of life...walk on by..) is too loud and dry in the mix...really sounds like an add on from a different session....

and the lead guitar gets in the way right there as well....a little too crowed at the end of the tune....

anyways...
I don't know shit so take what I say with a grain of salt man...
I like the song a lot man.....the hook stayed with me....

Sounds pretty good to me but between my ears and crappy speakers that's the best I can say.

I edited this post. I had confused myself with another song.

Snare sounds just a little up front to me and maybe bring up the bass a little.

Sorry, I have been listening to so many different tunes. I'm at work and get side tracked. I'll give it another listen.

I had adjusted the overheads just before creating the mix... I've gone back to the previous level.

I have a bit more work to do on the Snare.

Taylor C614ce -> e22S spaced pair -> Mackie 1604vlz -> RCOMP (heavily compressed)

brought up .5 db

the bass is intentionally undefined... I'm going for a a solid foundation that's out of the way.

I totally agree with your assessment at 3:40. I've adjusted it... hopefully the vocal and guitar sit in the mix better...

Thanks for the feedback... I still have more to do on the main vocal line.
