hooking up RNC

How do I hook up my condenser mic (which has XLR connectors and requires phantom power) to the RNC that I just purchased. My mic requires phantom power, which my recorder provides, but if I go throgh the RNC first, which is what I plan to do, will the mic still get power. Any help will be appreciated.

You'll need to put it in an insert or direct out to your recorder.

Microphone xlr to external preamp with phantom.....preamp line out (xlr to 1/4" unbalanced cable or 1/4" to 1/4" unbalanced cable ) to RNC...... OR external preamp insert ( if it has one ) to RNC with TRS/TRS cable (better if you have balanced outputs on your preamp.) If not using the insert.....RNC line out to recorder (1/4" to 1/4" unbalanced.) I don't think you can get phantom power to your mic running your mic into the RNC input and then into the recorder preamp. If your recorder doesn't have an insert on your mic channel, you'll need an external preamp or some sort of auxillary send/return to use the RNC. Hope I said all this right.

Thanks

Thanks, Guys. I've seen the light, I think. I can use TRS inserts, OR get a mixer/pre-amp w/o inserts and use 1/4 plugs like Steven advised. The manual talks about "TS (tip-sleeve) 1/4 cables". Am I right that these are "standard" 1/4 plugs, like a guitar cord or mic?

like a guitar cord IF your going from preamp to RNC to recorder.

If your inserting:
1/4" TRS to 1/4" TRS cord OR
1/4" TRS to two 1/4" phone (like a guitar cord)....its a y cable
whichever you prefer.....the TRS/TRS takes up less space.
