calidus is on a distinguished road
is the JV2080 outdated?

I got mine cheap, the converters are nice, though I don't dig the presets very much, neither I like programming a lot myself, the thing gets even less use since I got Kontakt and Halion.

I'm considering to sell it. Would you sell yours? Have you already sold it?

Thoughts? Alternatives?

Sklathill will become famous soon enough
well, I sold my 1010 a while back. Even though I use a lot of vsampler, I still use my 3080 for fast mockups and playing around. Sure, it doesn't sound as good, but there's definitely something that can be said for speed. And since I do the gigging keyboardist thing, I don't see myself ever getting rid of at least one hardware module...

You should look into adding some SR-JV expansion cards. Session and Vintage Synth would be my top 2 choices.

You still see the 2080 and 1080 in a lot of the big studios. They are the best bang for the buck going today. I agree with the comment about stocking up on the sound cards. Most of the upgrades are in the $99 range now.

The XV line definitely has better sounding effects like reverb, delay, modulation etc. But most of the time you can add these after the fact with plug ins or external devices. For core sounds, no effects, the JV series sound just as good to my ears as the XV line even though the samples in the XV are higher sampled.

I have the 1080 and have not come close to utilizing its sounds in addition to the country and session boards added later. I tried a lot of soft samplers and have Giga but it just loads the CPU too much when you get up to 15-20 tracks. These days I reserve CPU cycles for compressors and EQ plugs and leave special effects and sounds to external devices. More tracks, more versatility.

2080 - useful, undoubtedly. I wouldn't sell my XV3080 or 5050.

Superceded? If you have a listen to the new Fantom XR module samples at www.rolandus.com, you'll want to trade up immediately.
