Can I use this unit to load in samples from "drum kit from hell"
via: A cd drive hooked up to it's scsi port
to create my own drum patterns/songs like a typical drum machine?

If they are wave (wav) files or Akai .snd format then the should load with no problem.

Thanks for the reply, Yes they are in akai format. Can I load in looped samples as well as single shot samples.
I would like to utilize some looped fills and beats as well.

Yes the MPC will load looped samples... I'm not sure exactly how or why but some sounds load with the loop points already set and ready to use with the MPC. I think it depends on if the was saved with loop points.
