An interesting little pick-a-vocal-mic incident.
We were doing a quickie budget demo session and tried the mic that was up, a 4047, then went with an A51st that sounded nicer on him. So a few days later mixing he asked which one was which and how he was impressed with how much better he could hear himself on the first mic.
Hmm... Better artist's monitor condition = the better track, tone be damned? Wayne

And I always seem to forget about the effect swapping phase has for the vocalist. Wayne

Intersesting thoughts. It's been my experience that folks equate "louder" with "better". Is there a gain difference between the two mics? I'd imagine that any nuances in the track that might be what you like don't figure into what the talent might think.
