samples batch conversion?

Hi there

I bought a sample cd in AKAI format, bought it cuz I it was very cheap, 70% off regular price.

I can work with the samples within Kontakt BUT....

1 My cd-rw drive (it's the only cd-unit I have on my pc and it has F letter) doesn't recognize the cd as a cd-rom so...how the heck should I be able to burn a backup copy?

2 Halion ( I have 1.1) doesn't recognize the format either....only Giga and Soundfont show up in the import window.

I guess AKAI>wav is the format that would fit best. How do I do that?

Thank you

You should be able to burn a copy as a data disc. If they are instruments with samples you can't just convert them easily that I am aware of.

see what I found

Actually I must admit that I had prior knowledge of a couple of conversion tools, though at >130$, so I hoped someone could provide a cheaper solution or workaround. The apps I'm talking about:

http://www.cdxtract.com/home.php
http://www.chickensys.com/translator/index.html

Then I found this one, I don't get how SF2 relates to wav, but I guess this has to be the kind of tool I was looking for

http://www.nexoft.net/products/sampl...SampliConv.htm

any thought? Should I go for it?

Those look pretty cool. SF2 is a soundfont file. The Soundblaster cards will read Soundfonts. I'm not sure who else will.

You are dealing with two different entities when you convert samples. The actual sound file and the instrument definition. You want to be careful you don't lose the instrument setup unless you are just using loops or want to rebuild the instrument from scratch.

Try Awave Studio, best one out there.
However, you could read off the original cd rom if you know how to switch certain devices off in the os so that it doesn not use default recognition and simply shows the data it actually was recorded as.
But you could use Awave Studi and that will load entire banks and convert to any format you want.
