SP-1 Mic Clip

I think my next mic purchase is going to be a Studio Projects SP-1. I thought I had seen a thread about the clip that comes with it doesn't do a great job holding it. Did a search and came up empty. And I haven't seen any pictures of it with the mic. Does the included clip do an OK job. The mic isn't that expensive, but I don't want it crashing to the floor either. The elastic suspension mount is a consideration (extra $$$), though I haven't had alot of noise creeping into other LDC's that are solid mounted to the stand.

Admittingly, the clip is not a great one, but it is adjustable. Pull of the covers at the base to reveal a silver screw on each side. Tighten them up and you won't have any problems with a B1 moving at all. One bad issue is the threads do strip on the mic stand itself. While we have replaced them for free to any purchaser, we made a decision to raise the price of the B1 to $99.00 on the street and include the B Series Shock Mount.

So, a little more money, but now the mount is included, no clip. We think it is still worth it, but not all the dealers have this combo yet. In fact, we don't have our new shipment with them in the box yet. So you can still get them at the old price for a while, but soon, only the version with the Mount will be available for $99.00, more or less depending on the dealer.

IMO that is a wise move.

To me, the B1 + shockmount is definitely worth the $99. I don't own one, because I already have an AT4040 which I think is pretty similar in sound quality.

Thanks for the reply Alan. For the little extra money I'm going to wait until the new combo comes out.

Just FYI, I have two B1s with shockmounts, which are stable and work smoothly. There's no reason to wait, though--I bought my mics a few months ago (Sweetwater or Music 123?) for $99, including shockmounts, which just came in separate boxes.

Thanks...I just ordered mic and shockmount from Sweetwater. Somehow I thought the shockmount was alot more money.

From the third post of this thread:

http://www.studioprojectsusa.com/pdf...justment_c.pdf

or you'll need a new clip, or better a shockmount.

Or, he might have been on his meds that month. Looks like he might be relapsing, though....

Please explain the spam part of Alan's post then.

He only said the B1 comes with the shockmount now for an extra $20.

Is that spam?

instead of making another thread. once again, ima just ask a question since it's also about the studioprojects b1. I just got it in the mail.. i plugged it in. from the mic to the omni i/o studio interface/mixer wha/e u want to call it... and then turned on the phantom power... and then let it charge for 1 minute like said in the manual... then i spoke into the mic.. NOTHING.. NO SOUND AT ALL MA'FUCKERS....

so I called up the company and they mailed one right away with a confirmation # in like 3 hours later... I respected their professionalism with the matter, but just disappointed that their "new" mic was defective...

They sell so many of the mics it is inevitable that there will be defects with some. Which is why there are so many threads in this forum about problems with SP B1's, however it is to be remembered it is probably outsold nearly all other condensor mics this year. The fact that SP got back to you so quick is the redeeming fact that they are a very proffessional and helpful cmpany intent on providing excellent customer support.

Jay - that's life when you mail-order. It happens sometimes. But let us know if the new one works ... remember you *are* a newb so you might have set something up wrong. Did you try it with someone else's mixer (like your bro or whoever does your gear recommendations) before sending it back?

Not trying to get at you, but you should be 100% before you mail for an exchange because it pushes the prices up for everyone else!!

Er ... I bought a VCR and it turned out to be crap. Should the company (manufacturer or supplier) either:

- Repair or replace the VCR, or maybe refund me
- Give me a better VCR for free, which I could have bought to start with if I hadn't been tightfisted/lazy in my research.

<You get what you pay for>

DJL,

I don't quite understand what do you mean. Do you prefer NOT TO GET what you pay for? I am not sure if you cought the thread where Han was talking about his Neumann M149, when he had to pay over 400 freaking bucs for replacing a tube which costs $6.75 (!). I asked this question on Neumann pinboard two weeks ago and you bet, ever since I have been waiting for their reply. I guess, Neumann people have much more important things to do than answer silly questions about their waaay overpriced service. At least Alan honors and stands for every mic he sells, no questions asked.

<it would be best to buy a better mic>

That's a good idea if you have $$$. Don't forget, this is a HOMErecording.
