Mixer: Powered or Not?

I currently play in a band of 5 people and we would like to get a small mixer board of roughly $300USD max.

We want this because we want a more "centralized" sound coming out of our non-powered monitor speakers. We want one with 8 channels.

1) Is something like the Rolls MX902 9x2 Professional Mixer, or anything within the price range of 200-300usd powered or not?

2) For non-powered mixer boards, do I HAVE TO have a seperate power amp in order to have my instruments, such as acoustic guitar, play through the non-powered speakers?

3) If I already have a powered speaker, do I then NOT NEED a seperate power amp for my non-powered mixer board?

Lastly, any realistic suggestions for a mixer board within my price range with 8 channels? Powered or not I guess doesn't matter since I DO have powered speakers.

I dont know anything abou the mixer, BUT, If you have nonpowered speakers and a nonpowered mixer, then you will need a power amp. If you have powered speakers, you wont need an amp for a nonpowered mixer. I hope that makes sense. If you have a powered mixer, it will run nonpowered speakers. Generally, i believe, the more cable between whereever the power is and the speakers, the you lose sound quality...sooo...powered speakers are ideal, but much more heavy.

The Yamaha MG range should suit you fine I think.

Keeping in mind the varying reviews of Behringer products, the PMX2000 might be worth a look. Fairly decent powered mixer for 300 bucks. And it's a good place for ashtrays.

8 MIC in's with pre's. unpowered, $299 or something like that. I use that board but i have some problems with channels going out. Probably an isolated inscident. Its also somewhat unforgiving on the noise factor but honestly, you wouldnt be able to tell unless you have FANTASTICALY GREAT speakers.

(Is it possible to plug a powered mixer into a powered speaker? wouldn't that have an "electric" consequence?)

I'm gonna go to my local Tom Lee and other music stores to check out what they have. Ordering from internet costs too much (duties, shipping etc) since I don't live in the states.

I have my sight kinda set on the Yamaha MG series, esp one that has 12 channels and costs about 200 usd online.

Any cons with that thing besides the possibility of being able to get something cheaper?

I know Behringer and Rolls make cheaper mixers but Yamaha sounds more reliable to me, though I could be wrong...
