Sample rates

If I am transferring tracks from another source that recorded at 16 bit 44.1khz, should I set my project in Cubase to those parameters? Should I even adjust the default parameters in cubase at all?

If you are using Cubase SX there is an option in preferences in the file menu which you can select that will convert the files to the sample rate and depth of your project on import.
