Yo Simon:

I had a couple of those 488s -- nice box and it doesn nice work but I got tired of waiting for the tape to rewind -- now using digital SIAB.

But as to you dilemma, can only be one of two things: either the converter you bought is faulty or the 488 has a problem.

Is it possible for you to take the recorder to an electrical shop and give it a test? Or, have you tested the voltage converter with another piece of gear to make sure it isn't faulty? If your converter is working, then the only answer is something is wrong with the 488. Can't remember if the 488 has a fuse?

Well, anyway, check out your converter and you will reduce the problem one way or another.

When I drop by from the Colonies, I'll have a Laphroig neat.
