Any comments on Cubase SL 2.0? It suits my budget, and I am thinking about making a purchase. This will be a first time set-up me on MacG4. Anything comparable in price/quality? Thanks in advance.

I can't comment about the Mac, but I've been using SL 2.0 for a few weeks on my PC and I absolutely love it. I just finished mixing an entire project with it and was very impressed with the sound quality I achieved with it.

Take a look at cubase.net mac forum.

Problem with the insert effects.
Insert effects in Cubase SL 2.0 are post-fader instead of pre-fader . It means that when you adjust the volume level in an audio channel , input level of the insert effect will change respectively. So, if you are using a compressor insert effect for example, the sound will change according to the channel volume. It’s weird but according to SL 2.0 documentation, the insert effects are pre-fader. |

I am just getting ready to purchase a Cubase SL 2.0 and a M-Audio Firewire 410 from the Florida Music Co. I spoke with the "tech dude" and explained what I had and wanted to do. The total cost for both products is $700.00 which is in my budget. I was also looking at a Nuendo product but it is too much for what I needed and what I could afford.
From what I have read in this site, I want to get started recording while pick'n and grin'n.

Dreadnaught,
The project I just mixed was done mostly on my Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop (1.6 GHz P4, I think, 256 Mb RAM, stock soundcard). I had tracked everything with my Mackie MDR recorder (20 tracks/40 minutes live), then dumped the files via firewire into the laptop. I was travelling for about 5 weeks, and had this project to get done, so thought I'd give the new software a workout. I only used the stock plugins. Preliminary mixes were done with headphones only (couldn't carry my Event monitors with me). Final mixes and pseudo-mastering were done at home on my home stereo with a set of JBL 4311 studio monitors attached (this started as an experiment that actually provided really good results, so I may have found a way to do my imitation mastering in a different room with different monitors than I normally mix with). Anyway, I hope that answers your question. Darryl..... |
