S/PDIF out to .WAV in

Forgive me if this has been answered somewhere in the forum. I read over the whole forum and didn't find what I needed.

Anyway, does anyone happen to know what I would need to be able to take the Stereo mix from the S/PDIF output of the 788 and turn it into a stereo .WAV file on my PC? My PC has one of those "on-board" sound cards, with no S/PDIF input, and I'm trying to get around having to go D/A out of the 788, then A/D via the on-board card.

Right now, all I have is Cool Edit 96 running on a PC with Win98SE, P3 600 MHZ, 192 MB RAM. Do I just need a sound card with a S/PDIF input, or will I need to install a new program also?

I just need to dump to the PC to do 'mastering' and then burn CD's . No multi-track software needed.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

You'll need a s/pdif in, maybe from computergeeks or someone similar.

The other thing is your sound card is probably 16 bit and it's a lot better to go with 24.

What I'm using now is a SB Audigy 2 with a live drive, so the input's right on the front, along with midi, optical, and line inputs. Very handy.

You're gonna need more RAM.
