System details would help diagnose the problem. However, my P4 doesn't like the US-122 when I have hyperthreading enabled and I'm using Cakewalk Sonar 3. Disable HT in the BIOS and it works fine as a recording interface. If I don't unplug it afterwards, however, my system locks up when it tries to go to sleep. I think Tascam needs to work on their drivers.

Get the latest drivers and update them. Do you have enough RAM? Shut down everything except the system tray and explorer, disable all screensavers and antivirus softs. In short make sure that the US122 is the only USB device attached and that your recording software is the only application using system resources.
Don't give up, I am having troubles with this device too, it seems that it is very particular with it's configuration needs.
