MIDI from sequencer to keyboard question..

I dont know if this can be answered unless you own the model Im working with, but here is my problem...

I own a Yamaha EZ-30 keyboard. LOL, not your pro studio keyboard but "usually" I use it to trigger sounds and samples form my sampler. WELL, I actually want to use a sound from the yamaha.

I programed a midi track on my sampler. I connected the keyboard to the sampler as a slave. When I play my sampler it plays the midi sequence I programmed on the keyboard, but I can only get the keyboard to play the piano voice, I want to use a completely different sound(voice) but I cannot figure out how to change them on the keyboard, the owners manual dosent really describe this process. ANy thoughts or ideas would be cool. THANX, pm

Shouldn't be as simple as changing the instrument on the keyboard.

Welp

Yeah, I thought that, but no, while the sampler is playing the midi sequence threw the keyboard, the keyboard is playing the the piano sound (voice), but the current setting on the keyboard will be on a guitar synth. That is why I am so confused.................pm

You should be able to assign a patch number on the track that is playing. Are you monitoring the audio outs on the keyboard? IF not you are just hearing the internal sound card sounds.

Well....

If I understand your question, here is the deal, all it has is a stereo/headphone output or when it is unplugged it has those awsome built in speakers. The keyboard manual says it has 16 midi sequence tracks, which is just like my sampler. On my drum machine, you can actually assign a midi track, 1-16, and the midi sequenced pattern on the sampler will play the instruments off the drum machine, the keyboard however dosent have that option. Im going to try something else I just thought of. Thanx for your posts, keep the ideas commin if you have them, I think Im getting somewhere, Ill get back soon..........peace, pm...

Check you manual. You should be able to assign the midi channel for the keyboard. They probably just have some very un obvious way of doing it.

Cool, I'll look the whole thing over today. I tried a few things with no success, I know there has to be a way because I believe I had this problem a while back, and I think it was by accident I got the sound I wanted, LOL, but my main objective is to figure this out, thanx for your help Tex..................pm

Sounds like your software is sending out General MIDI and your keyboard is responding to Channel 1. (Channel 1 is accoustic piano in General MIDI).

You need to turn GM off.
