Selection Help Please.

Hello, can anybody point me in the right direction? Well, what I am looking for is a keyboard/digital piano for under $2100. Weighted keys are are also needed. I am aiming for something with cool synth sounds AND realistic piano sounds (equally important to me). So far, I have had the Yamaha S90 and Korg Triton LE (88 key) recommended to me. Also, I am a real newbie when it comes to knowing what works with what. For instance, will I be able to hook the keyboard up to some 5.1 speakers or anything like that? or am I restricted to just 2 stereo speakers? I've done a little research myself, but I can't find out how good the korg piano sounds are. Can you help me out? Thanks, I really appreciate your help.

Welcome...

Hello! And welcome to the board!!
Good to see new faces here... (well almost!)...

Anyway...
I love the pianos on the Triton...
I personally enjoy the Kurzweil pianos the most... They seem to have the warmest piano timbres to me...

As for "5.1"... Most keyboards are only setup for Stereo operation (2 speakers)... Most of the "Surround" type sound is built "after" the fact... Usually you have software such as Logic Audio or something that's capable of changing the spacial field...

Good Luck...

So... can anybody else tell me about the triton le piano sounds? happy with them? not happy with them? would they be suitable for traditional piano composition? thanks again.

Why don't you go to your local store and try it for yourself?

it's quite noisy at my local guitar center. 70% of the people there are just banging on keys for fun. perhaps i could find out if it were a little quiter. just curious to see what other people think about the triton though.

Just a thought.

I have been very impressed by the sounds in the Yamaha Motif Rack. It's the same basic library as the Motif series but you have the flexibility to work with whatever controller is comfortable to you.

If I were you, I'd jump on a motif rack and get a nice controller for 400 or so and run w/ that combo. That's what I did and I haven't looked back since.

If you have any other questions, Lemme know.

That's when you ask for a pair of headphones.
