adding effects to parts

is there some way to just add effects to certain parts, without making a new track.

for example, at the end, i want the lead vocals to echo out. i have plenty of plugins, but they affect the whole track.

any help?

sure, Brad. N does that.

- Put your echo plugin in an AUX 1.
- Raise the AUX Send of that channel about halfway.
- Raise the AUX Return about half way.
- Listen to the track and adjust the echo the way you want it (yes, it applies to the whole track).
- Open the Aux Send Evolution (14th button on toolbar.. select Draw Send To Aux 1 Volume)
- Lower the evolution to 0 on everything except the very end.

What you're doing it telling N to mute Aux 1 until the very end. How much you send to Aux 1 (the echo) depends on Aux Send, Aux Return, and Aux 1 Volume evolution.

You have very complete control.

hope this helps.

Question How 'bout this

Hey Teej,

I've been reading your nTrack expertise with great interest.

Since I'm just starting out, I was thinking maybe you'd like to be my personal tutor, ya know, hang out at my house for about six months or so and get me started on the right foot!

ha, ha, ha...

Thanks so much for the valuable info!

Oops.. THIRTHEETH! At least on my version of N. I'm running build 1516.

You're looking for Draw Volume Envelopes. You can choose which envelopes you want to draw. For the echo, you want AUX 1 Volume.

Envelopes are instructions to N to change levels as the song is being played. Draw a track's volume envelope, and the track's output volume will change based on what you draw. Draw a track's pan envelope, and the track's output will pan from left to right based on what you draw.

An Aux send envelope controls how much of the channel's signal is sent to the auxilary path.

make sense?

Jeesh, Teej, I was doing it all wrong. I would copy (or cut) and paste that part of the track into a new track, then add echo, etc. there. Your way definitely seems easier and saves on tracks. Thanks for the info.

You're quite welcome, G. There are a number of ways you can do this sort of thing in N. Flexibility is one of its strengths.

volume envelopes

i dont use it much, but you can hit the r for record, then move the volume slider and panning sliders on your channels, and it will record the movement, then hit the p for playand it will play them back and you can see the faders move, like i said i dont do that much uses too much resourses, but pretty cool non the less.....
