What is wrong with this recording???

Thanks to the information I have found on this board, I have decided to take the plunge and set up a home studio.

I ran across a web site that contains an mp3 of a studio recording by a Bluegrass band. While I feel the musical proficiency of the band is good, the recording leaves something to be desired.

I have no recording/mixing experience, but PLENTY of listening expereince. Would you experienced guys take a listen to the recording and give an opinion as to what is going here?

I don't want to make the same mistakes as I hear on this recording, but I have no idea what is making it sound the way it does. The recording sounds flat to me.

Opinions?? Here is the link.....http://www.cabinfeverbluegrass.com/Listen.html

click on THE LEGEND OF THE BROWN MOUNTAIN LIGHTS.

Thanks guys!!

Sounds like it needs to be mastered. Otherwise, it's quite decent.

Spoken like a true mastering engineer.

Ha ha. He is right, though. The recording sounds fine, and just a little extra sweetening would just about do it.

Thanks for the opinions.........

It just sounded very dry to me compared to other recordings I have heard from some of the big-name acoustic folks.

Anybody else ?
