Question Tascam 388 & Phantom Power

I just picked up a 388 (a step up from my 414) and I'm curious what other people are doing for phantom power.

When I recorded with the 414 I used an Audio Buddy for the pres & phantom power.

Should I keep using the audio buddy as a pre, or is there something else I should check out?

Thanks,

--justin

I have the 388. While I've not tried my condenser mic with it, I have a trusty ole Shure dynmic that I used with many recordings. I found the trim on the 388 was exceptionally good and never had trouble getting a nice strong signal to track.

I think you might try recording without and with your studio buddy and see what you think. The 388 is a great unit as long as you can find some nice quality 1/4" tape.

Arrow The 388 is an awesome unit, and is a huge step up from the 414. HUGE.

I'm like the guy above. I've never needed phantom power, and I use the Shure SM57, a simple, utilitarian dynamic mic, with good results.

If your mics demand phantom power, then use what you have. The 388, otherwise, is a fine and capable unit. Good luck.

Here is what I got for my 388 and it works great, THis is the two mic unit and I think I paid 40.00 for it. They also have a single unit that I think cost 30 works on two 9 volts batts or a 9 volt dc adaptor ( not included)

I also own a 388. My meagre mic collection consists of mostly dynamics (an AKG D321, a pair of Beyerdynamic M201s and an M99, an Audio-Technica ATM25, a Sennheiser MD421 and an Electro-Voice EV 635A) and a pair of Electret Condensors (Behringer ECM8000s); which don't require the full 48v PP and which can be easily powered by my Audio Buddy. So Phantom Power isn't an issue for me.

Yet.
