Roland VS2480CD

Ok, I hate digital effects, if i want an effect it will come from my analog pedals. If i wanted an amp model, id actually buy that amp. Also i find no use for midi.

What is the equivalent of this recording console with no junk attached(digital effects, midi, etc) and with better preamps, faster burning maybe. Just something to record sounds i can make with crystal clear reproduction. I heard this units sound was comparable to a full set of fully loaded pro tools when the audio is 24bit uncompressed? True? People at ZZounds.com seem to love it.

Also the preamps in this unit are not top of the line. Could they be changed if i ended up buying this?

I just got my 2480CD...I am totally impressed w/ the efx...It comes stock w/ one VS8f-2 card....

I think in April sometime the new VSf-3 card is coming out and it is gonna be huge for us VS owners...

I'm still learning my 2480 unit (I probably will be for quite some time for it is truely awesome)...therefore I cant answer your specific questions but I can say that I am totally impressed w/ the built in efx...go to vsplanet.com for some experienced people to answer your specifics...

You can bypass the pres with your own preamp of choice. As far as the effects, they are awesome. Buy the machine anyway, if you dont use the guitar amp simulaters or pedal effects, then use some of the awesome vocal effects on vocal tracks. There is so much you can do with those two little vs fx cards.

It's not quite right to say that you can bypass the pres on the 2480. You can run an outboard pre through the Roland pres, and turn the Roland gain down to line level- but the signal still goes through the Roland...Still better than the stock pres, though...(depending on what's going in, of course)

I have the 2480...I have very little outboard gear....besides my 2480 but w/ reading forums etc...

I think the way the 2480 experts do it (I could be wrong..for I'm still learning) is they have an outboard pre-amp..then send it to an A/D converter then back to the 2480 via its digital inputs....bypassing the pre's all together...

I could be dead wrong but thats how I interpreted peoples threads...Hopefully someone w/ more knowledge (maybe its you?...for I'm not ashamed to say I'm an idiot...) will shed some more light on this
