Seeking Headphones...

Im looking for a fairly decent set of headphones for recording and mixing.

Maybe 1 for recording and 1 for mixing, depending on what my options are and how much Ill be spending.

I can go as high as 50-60 for a single pair, or maybe 80 for two (like a $30 set and $50 set)

I just need something thats not gonna bleed too bad while recording and something decent for mixing.

Id rather have two different sets of phones, but Id consider going with one nice set.

What and where should I look at/into...?

Yo Johan:

Mixing with cans? Nay, nay, nay. For the price you mention, or any price for that matter, what you hear in the cans is NOT what you'll get when you mix. Try it and you'll see.

If you want to do vocals, overdubbing, you'll need "closed" cans. You can easily get mic bleed if you're using "open" cans.

There are a gaggle of cans out there from low end to mid end to high end to "rear end" cans. Sooooo, kind of search around here and read the views.

I like the Beyer 250 cans but they are not in the price range you seek. Sony cans, AKG cans, and a plethora more await your search.

I went ahead and purchased a pair of these:
Audio Technica ATH-M30

I got the pair for $90 shipped. I thought that was pretty good...

Anyone have any experience with them?

I've been using Fostex T-20's forever (20+ years)

This past weekend I bought a pair of Sony MDR-7506 and a pair of Ultrasone HFI-550.

I'm really digging the spatial imaging in the Ultrasone HP's

Yo Fender-Bender:

If the Ultrasones, as I viewed them, are OPEN cans -- you'll get lots of bleed doing vocals via overdubbing.

Closed cans are much better for overdubbing. But, maybe, I didn't look far enough into the advertising post link?

Or, is that SPAM=O-:LA???

Perhaps not.

No SPAM, I'm a regular Joe. There is a model of Ultrasone hp's that are open designed. The model I purchsed is not open. Here's a direct link:

I worked 12 years in broadcasting (radio) so I'm very conscience of the bleed from open phones.
All I'm saying is this, if you're in the market, It's my opinion that they're worth a listen. I prefer them to the oft recommended Sony's YMMV
