The best quality cable?

I've talked to a bunch of people and I'm a bit confused about which is the best cable out there for sound quality. So far I get the idea that it is Mogami. By all means correct me if I'm wrong.

Some one told me that the Monster Studio link cables are great for the value. Although I will want to look into extra cables based on value, I want to get at least 1 instrument and 1 XLR cable that is the best of the best. I can use these for indivdual studio takes and use the value cables for when I need more than 1 cable at time for like live recording.

Anyways, The mogami cable that seems to be the best for Mics (I think) is either the "Gold Series Neglex Quad Mic Cable for Studio Neutrik XLR" or the "Gold Series Highly Flexible Stage Mic Cable with Neutrik XLR". I'm not sure if the stage mic has better sound quality or if it is just more durable. If you know please let me know.

For instrument cables the best that Mogami has is the "Mogami Gold Series High-Definition Instrument Cable Neutrik 1/4" Plugs".

One thing I am unsure about is if it is best to use "TS" or "TRS" for pluging a bass or guitar into the amp. Would the TRS cable cancel out more noise, or would there be no difference?

So this is the best I've found or heard about. If you know of better please let me know. Any opions are welcome too. Thanks.

Bass needs instrument cable, doesn't it? That's TS. the most important thing is to match the cable to the use. TRS is not better if the gear needs TS.

I like Canare cable, and I use Connectronics and Mogami cable as well. I don't think you have to go too crazy, just as long as you stay away from Hosa and other bottom dwelling cables.

I think monster cable is overpriced, but I know people that swear by it. It sounds like you are looking in the right direction for what you need.

You need instrument cable for a bass. the trick with instrument cable is to find cable with the lowest capacitance possible. A lot of guitar players like the George L stuff, but it is just too insubstantial for me. Years ago, I got a bunch of Spectraflex cable for my guitar. I am very happy with it, as it never tangles on me (you DO know how to over under your cable, right?) and it has very low capacitance. I don't even know if they are still making it, but I like it.

Are there any comparison sites out there?

I've looked all over google but can't find any sites that objectivly compare all of the major cables like: Monster, Mogami, Canare, Blue, etc.. The results I get are all comparing prices and not the actuall quality of cable.

If you know of a comparison site out there let me know. Thanks

I'm no expert but I remember reading a thread some time ago either here or over on Harmony Central where someone stated that, generally speaking, audio cable is audio cable. More important than the cable is the connectors, the best being Neutrik.

How accurate this opinion is I don't know but I toss it out for you and others to consider.

I'd suggest you buy one of each and determine for yourself which you like better. If you buy cable by any of those four you mention you will not be sorry, they'll all be fine. Then after that you can just buy more of whichever you prefer, based on your own experience.
