Angry Tascam 788 Midi Sync with Sonar XL 2.0

Newbie question. This is my first time to try synching my Tascam 788 with Sonar XL 2.0. My preference is to use the 788 as the Master, and send the tempo map Clock to the Sonar with SPP.

I have set the 788 to INT sync src, CLOCK for sync gen, and 30ND for the frame rate.

On Sonar, I set the Clock to MIDI Sync, with 30 ND frame rate as well.

On my MIDI interface (an old MOTU MIDI Flyer Parallel), I can see the light illuminating that data is passing into the interface, but the computer/Sonar does not seem to be getting the messages. When I hit play on Sonar, I get the "Waiting for MIDI Sync" in the message bar.

I would expect to hit play on the 788, which would send the correct start message to Sonar.

One other test I did was to record some MIDI data through the interface into Sonar, which was successful.

Can anybody help me troubleshoot why the 788 and Sonar don't seem to be communicating? Could it be my interface?

Sorry for the open-ended ambiguity of the situation.

Thanks for the help. lm

My setup is similar except I have a Midiman 2x2 USB interface, shouldn't make a difference.
788 settings:
Sync: INT
Sync Gen: CLock
Frame rate 30 ND
Set tempo map to match your sonar file
Control: Master
Device ID: All

Sonar:
Options>project>Clock: midi sync
Midi Out: check top 3 boxes, output port 1
check bottom 2 boxes also

In track view, set instrument channell to midi in to Midi Omni, Out to your midi interface...

Good Luck!
