good sound with brushes - Home Recording

Hello Folks,

I am currently working on a project where brushes are being used on the drums. I am trying to get a big round booming/hollow sound with little luck. Mics are just a couple of condensers and a few uni-dynamics, and i'm trying to avoid using compression. How would you guys set this up?
