Drum machine, samplers, mixing them? Making loops?

How can I put a sample behind a beat and make a loop? I usually use my equipment to record quitar and brass but I need these loops for certain vocal parts of my songs?
What sampler should I buy?

Dave, You must be more specific on this topic cause it is a great topic, What kind of gear do you have, and do you have a computer with software and things to align the beats, if all you have is a tape machine, its gonna be a pain and no fun.?
