Lightbulb Help!

I am new to recording, so please don't bash me. But I was wondering where is the best place for micing an amp. Guitar and bass. Please help.

Yo Burn:

I don't think there is any "absolutely" right place for micing your amp. Depends on the room, your gear, etc.

But, here is something for you to try and see what happens.

Run your guitar directly into an RNC or your compressor and from the compressor into your recording gear.

Do the same with the bass.

You can do the reverb, if needed, and eq tweaking after you have the tracks done.

I have GK amp, small but very good -- sometimes I run a bass into the amp which has a direct through. So, it doesn't come out of the speaker but the sound goes directly into a compressor or the recording gear.

Lots of things for you to try and see "what happens."

PS No one can "flame" a BURN!

If it is Marshall 50 watt tube head to a 4x12 straight cabinet with the amp's volume to about 8 and the gain to about 8 for rock guitar sound then,

place a sure 57 on a stand,
put the mic right up against the mesh speaker protecter,
with the mic parallel to the floor (level)
point the mic at the deep corner of the inner ring of the speaker
