MR8-Tip to save CF-space

Hello,
you can save a lot of space at your CF cards, if you record ON only at those parts of the tracks, where you realy want to record something. For example if you have a Gong-Track with a Gong on it at the end of your song. Then you can Rec-ON short time before the Gong and after that OFF again. If you later transfer the tracks to your PC with Wavmanager they will be expanded to full lenght, even if there is only a Gong at the end.
I hope this is helpful in a fight with always to small CF-cards.

Thanks for the tip! I usually use the MR-8 to record and later dump all of the wavs onto my computer to mixdown via software (Cakewalk). I have been recording tons of silence because lining up tracks in Cakewalk is a real pain--especially in that sometimes it sounds good to be a little off-beat when, for example, you are playing a guitar solo. It's hard to re-capture that. Now that I know WavManager will "add me some silence", I will be able to save a ton of space.

if you use this method, and dump files to a computer, the portion of a track, will not sinc up properyly, at least in n track it doesnt , you have to record the silence also or the part showes up in the wron g place

but i might not have been using wav manager at the time and that could definatly make the difference

Hello,
you have to use the WAVMANAGER to transfer files from the CF-card to your PC or MAC. Because you have in every song-directory a *.adl file, which explains the transfer program how to sync the files. You can´t dump the files from the CF-card to your computer, this will NOT sync. But I do it for some months wiith the WAVMANAGER and had never any problems ! A further advantage is that you save a lot of time when you don´t transfer "silence"

I've been doing this with wav manager since I downloaded it for months and never had sync problems. Right now I'm using Power Tracks and seems to line up fine. My next extra 50 bucks will be for n track though. I've heard good things in here. The Delete Unsed in the Song menu will also give time on your cf back by deleting your old takes. ive been using wav manager for about two month now, i figured that made the difference, figured that out when my punch ins showed up in peices hahah you will love ntrack, i sure do, really useer friendly and well worth the price to me....

first of all, i have n tracks, and it is awsome, go get it now.

second, if i do the thing where i just record the one part, then transfer it via wav manager, will it sync with the rest of the stuff? im not clear on your replies

Wav manager imports whole track data. It will sync a ''part'' if it is recorded with the rest of the song in real time. But the rest of the track must be silent or unwanted data will be imported also. ex. If you have tr01 drums,tr02 bass,tr03 guitar,tr04 lead vocal,tr05 guitar solo and want to add a backing vocal. Though your guitar solo may be over and space is left on tr05. You can't record the backing vocal on tr05 after the solo and just import that vocal without the solo coming over with it. The backing vocal can be put on tr06 and recorded(punched in) in the places it needs to be without having to hit record at the start of your song. Therefore saving cf card time and giving more control of your tracks at mixdown.
