JV-1010 and Cakewalk

Howdy folks.

I have just joined this little group, and I look forward to getting a lot of info from you great folks.

My new JV-1010 will arrive in a couple days, and I have been trying to get some research done so that I can get going on what I will need to do once it arrives.

I am a one-man-band who plays guitar, and I use a laptop on stage with a Yamaha MU80 sound module, and play my midi sequences with Cakewalk 9.03. The MU is user friendly as hell, but the sounds are simply not near as good as the JV series sounds I have downloaded from the net. That's why I purchased the 1010.

Now comes the questions.

I have heard that the GM mode on the 1010 is alright, but everyone says I will really want to use the performance mode for my sequences so that I can use all the higher-bank sounds on the 1010. I have downloaded everything I can find on the JV series, including studio panels for Cakewalk, the 1010 instrument definition file, and everything else I could find.

First can someone explain what these performance banks are? When I load the INS definition file for the 1010 into Cakewalk, it gives me choices for drums, for patch, and for performance. I import the performance, and then under Bank, there are strange things like, "eastern split, techno pop, house set, pop set, and things. There are no instruments that I can see, or no banks besides PreA, Pre-B, and user.

Now, I am half-way intelligent, so I kinda assume that these are for keyboard players, and that these are sets of sounds for a single keyboard player. and he can choose from the factory splits and setups for his keyboard, or he can create his own and store them in a user bank.

Now, I am not a keyboard player. I am going to use this thing to play GM sequences, and I want to be able to use Cakewalk to choose from all the best instruments on the JV. Since I know other people have said that they do this, and do it in performance mode, I then assume that they must be setting up there own user banks and saving them. So, am I correct in saying that I will be able to setup say, 4 or 5 different banks of GM type performances, and then save them, and then decide which of my sequences sound best in a certain user bank?

Will I be forced to use Sound Diver, no matter what, or be stuck using the GM bank?

Can I not do everything I need to do in Cakewalk?

Will I be able to set sysex or controllers that will load my user performance banks and imbed them right in my midi files, so that when I bring a song up on stage, the proper bank will load and all I'll have to do is hit play in Cakewalk, just like I do with my MU80?

I simply want to have access to all the great sounds on the Jv, and be able to setup these sounds so that my GM sequences can use them, and be able to save them in Cakewalk so that I can choose a song on stage, and have it play all the great sounds that I have it programmed to play using the JV.

Any help with this stuff would be appreciated.

you might want to slim down your post to the vitals to increase your chance of getting some answers.

I'm not familiar with the JV1010 so I can't really comment as to your many questions. I'm intrigued with your desire to do this live, though. you got any pics of you onstage with all this gear?
