midi outputs and fx for music creator 2003

whenever i open music creator 2003, it says i don't have any midi outputs, and i don't really want any midi outputs. but in order to hear the metronome, i need midi outputs to hear it. how do i choose the midi outputs so i can hear the metronome? and does anyone know how to get fx for music creator? do i download the fx off websites?
