MR-8 with preamp

I'm using a DMP3 into the MR-8.

Should I be using the gains on the MR-8 at all, or should they be turned down to 0?

This doesn't seem an issue with condenser mics, but with the dynamic (an old AKG), I have to crank up the DMP3 pretty hard to get a loud signal, and sometimes use the MR-8 gain to notch it up a bit more.

I leave the MR8 turned down and use the preamp faders.
