I think the Pocket Studio 5 from TASCAM has a built in condenser microphone and is a four track recorder and is very compact...hand-held in fact.

The only problem with it though is that it is not an analog, cassette based unit. It records on compact flash cards, like digital still cameras do.

It can only capture sounds as 64kbs mp3 files however.

Cheers!

Thumbs up

Thats awesome! I didn't know they exist.... Who cares about the shitty MP3 quality, it's just a notepad... I'm going to check into one of these myself..

Then get a cheesy 4-track and a crappy dynamic mic. Never heard of a 4-track casette with a built in mic.

Well, actually I believe that there are some outdated fostex 4tracks that goes with a built in mic. Pretty sure I had one myself, say 6-7 years back. Can't recall the modell right now, but it was white!
And yes, it was all analog - made my first recordings on one.

korg makes a nice, tiny 4 track recorder with a built in mic... its really easy to use, fast (perfect for capturing ideas quickly), very tiny, and the built-in mic sounds great! I was pleasantly surprised when I used one of these.

I just ordered one for myself, still waiting. I don't know of any place that has them in stock, but check out musiciansfriend.com of music123.com or someplace like that, I think they carry them.

I friend of mine went to italy with just an acoustic guitar and this little device recently and came back with an amazing demo of new songs!

Are you talking about that Korg mini digital 4 track, the Pandora PXR4? Again that is more than I want to spend.
