I read people using a sm57 for bass drum. any good or no

Good in that it can handle the spl
good in that it has a tight pattern - keeps other sounds out. good in that it has a slight high end lift built in only problem is the rolloff in the low end but that can be compensated for. cheers JOhn |

i used one...
i used one a long time ago before i had a real kick drum mic, but now that i have used the d112 i won't go back to the 57.

Not the first mic I'd reach for but it can definately work there. A lot depends on the particular kick you're miking.

You can slap a 57 infront of about anything and get a sound you can work with.
