Bouncing tracks to 5\6

Hi, I bought the MR-8 as a Christmas gift for my 17 year old son, (as well as myself). After he (we) record tracks 1-4, everything sounds great! Untill we bounce them to 5/6. Then everything sounds like a skipping record, or tracks skipping back and forth. Could someone tell me if I have a defective unit, defective card,(recently purchased Viking 256MB-New), or are we doing something wrong? Desperate musicians seeking advice, thanks.

I'm afraid your card may not work properly with the MR-8. I haven't not tried to upgrade mine, but others have attributed the skipping problem to an incompatible card.

Here's a link to the ones Fostex has OK'd and apparently it's very important to stick with one of those.

Good luck!

from pg 6 of the manual:"If you make recording or editing to a song many times, audio may be occasionally interrupted when the song is played back, due to data fragmentation. Note that this is not a malfunction."

This might be your problem...

can you de-frag a CF card?

mr 8

it is most likely a incompatable cf card, nothing more.

you should be able to make as many takes as your card will handle, but when you encounter that type of problem bouncing, you need a compatable cf card

try a test with the original card, just speak into the built in mic, make a couple of tracks, then bounce and confirm the machine is not defective
