could this be a mic problem ?

i am having a problem with either a microphone or maybe a cable. the problem is that when the vocalist is singing ,the P.A will cut out and when he hits the top of the mic with his open hand it then comes on again. the mic is a sure sm 58. the board is a mx2442. the amp does not seem to be over heating.

any ideas? this happens 20 times a practice.

how are you pushing the signal to the speakers?

Are you running it through an amp after the mixer?
If so, is there a limiter on the PA?

are you juicing the signal too much?
