How to Build a Kick Drum Mic

http://homerecording.about.com/libra...y/aa112502.htm

Has anyone seen that article before or ever tried this? I'm wondering how it sounds. And what kinds of differences would different sizes/styles of speakers make? I just happen to have an old woofer sitting around collecting dust and thought this would be a fun project.

Someone did a thread on this a few months ago. I do know that Yamaha makes this and put's it in a small drums and charges a lot for it. I just haven't had the time to make one but from what I've heard it works well.

I believe the first time this was done was at EMI back in the '60s on some Beatle recordings. It works pretty good if used in conjuction with a conventional kick mic.
