OLP by Music Man

I'm thinking of buying a 5-string bass. Though my budget is restricted. I've seen a reasonable priced 5 string OLP, and the reviews on the net are OK. Does anybody have an opinion on this bass?Or are there similar alternatives?

I've played the OLPs unplugged in a store one or two times. They're definately not bad.
I see that you're from Holland. Let me put it this way. If Edwin van Huik's Bass Connection (www.connectionbult.com) carries something, you just know it's at least decent (although you can often find the stuff cheaper elsewhere..). He doesn't sell crap.

Thanks, Christiaan. He sells them, and the price seems OK!

ive played a ton of them (i work in returns at musicians friend), they are absolutly killer for the price, the workmanship is absolutly light years beyond some un named big named guitar companys out there. new pickups, bridge and tuning machines and you have an amazing bass.

I have one. It's been a fantastic bass up to this point. (8 months and counting) I bought it as a back-up for my Music Man 5. I actually play the OLP more. Great build quality for the $270.00 I paid for it. Only changes I've made to it have been pots. (Changed them over to Dixon full sized cans) I did foil the control cavity. It's a great axe. The closest thing I've played too it lately was the MTD Kingston. Very close and the Kingston cost $350.00 more

These seem to be getting quite mixed reviews. I read someone's post saying they were complete junk.

Does anyone know the scoop on the MM5 baritone guitar? Is it designed for being downtuned?

standard tuning for baritone guitars is lower than a standard guitar's standard tuning, yes. It's still basically close to the same tension on the strings, but because of the extra length, it's a lower pitch. And getting that way-downtuned sound out of 'em is a piece of cake, since you can tune them lower without getting the strings flop around.

For a great example of it, listen to the Dysfunction album from Staind... Mike Mushok plays baritone guitars nearly exclusively.

and I'm glad to see some OLP guitars with good reviews, because i"m looking at getting the Stuart Spector Designs OLP basses... cheap, decent, and what i'm looking for for now.
