complete my setup

hello, I have a tascam 38 recorder and I am looking for a mixer. I have two ward beck pre-amps, so I prefer a mixer without pre-amps. I would like a simple 8-channel analogue mixer. Any ideas?

Looks like you have the opposite of my problem. I have a yamaha MC803 I just bought from ebay (probably for too much) but nothing else. My question is what can I use to record, playback and edit. I'll look into that tascam 38.

The simplest mixer I have ever seen with 8 channels and no Mic inputs was an older TASCAM model called the M-1B.

It was an 8x2 line level mixer, very compact, rack mountable and simple to operate.

They were manufactured around the same time as the 38 was offered so, you might be able to find one on Ebay still.

adam - some thoughts -

alot, of course, depends on your intentions of use, but at a starting point - even though you already have some pre-amps you like, I would suggest that an older tascam mixer like the 308/ 312/ 320 would be a perfect match for that 38 R-R deck.

while these have pre-amps in every channel, they also have multiple inputs into every channel, mic in's which feeds to the internal preamp, and also have line in's, so you could use the external pre-amps where you want.

this older familiy of tascam mixers is only of a 4-buss design, but has direct outs and have tape return in as well, so even the 8 channel 308 mixer mates very nicely with a 8 track 38 deck.

these are often available fairly reasonably priced on ebay as well.
