spindle caps/reel retainers

I just started using an old Roberts open reel, made by Akai, mostly for pulling archived material off a bunch of ancient tapes.
One thing that is missing is the caps that hold the reels in place on the spindles. I've got it jury rigged right now, but does anyone know where I might be able to find the real deal, and what the correct term for this part is?-Richie

I think the term "Reel Clamper" would be official enough.

Radio Shack used to sell rubber reel clampers in the good old days but, I don't know if they still do?

You could always make your own out of a couple of jumbo pencil erasers by cutting out a hole in the middle of them, the size and diameter of the post that the reel slips over on the reel tables. Doing that might not look too pretty but it would do the job.

Possible, but not practical. I already know how to jury rig it. The question was, does anybody know where I can get the correct parts, and what they're called?-Richie

They're called Reel Clampers .

If you can't find any. You might also try contacting some Audiophile retailers who still sell record players and their accessories.

These stores might have something called, Disk Clampers . They are used for securing LP records to the platter in order to obtain a lower rumble specification and to tighten up the bass response of vinyl playback.

Oddly enough, these rubber Disk Clampers will wok like a charm on 7" open reels in allowing the user to clamp the reel in place for those reel platers that don't have spring loaded spindle locks as I am assuming, your Roberts deck does not have.
